This week, we bring you a Q&A session with Nazmin Sunderji, a former employer of Breizh and now an entrepreneur of her own. She is the founder and owner of Pink Lotus Aromatherapy, and now she shares with us the story of her essential oils line.
Q: Can you tell us more about yourself and our history together?
A: I used to work here at Breizh about eight years ago, or maybe more than that. It was my favorite place. I love it. It stills feels like home, but now it’s way better and different.
Q: Tell us more about your product. What motivated you to jump into the business by yourself?
I bought roller from Aveda once. I was impressed by the way it smelled and worked, but I thought I could do something like it but way better. I wanted to make it more concentrated and put in a higher quality of oil. What I did was blend it into organic golden jojoba oil and a refined hemp seed oil.
The jojoba oil adjusts to our body’s natural lipids, so we are able to absorb it the best. I made a bunch of them as a gift for mother’s day. The owner of the store saw it, and he was interested in it. My intuition told me to go for it, and I created the whole line based on the first Relief Oil which is the best seller.
The Relief Oil is very goof for headaches, insomnia, and relaxation before bed. It’s sold out now, so that’s good news, right?
I also have one for joint and muscle pain, and I use wintergreen and camphor, so it’s invigorating. If you put it directly where it hurts you feel the mentholated feeling right away.
The other one is for anxiety and depression, and it’s very uplifting. It has bergamot and rosemary and provides mental clarity.
The last one is Flora. It’s a perfume of rose and jasmine and is an aphrodisiac as well.
So those are the four rollers, and they also come in mini sizes and cream form.
For that last one, I blended them with shea and cocoa butter, and Vitamin E. It’s for hands and feet, it’s reach, nice, and perfect for right before bed. A few estheticians are even using it for feet massage, so there’s also market for large sizes for spas and massage therapists.
Q: So your products are all natural ingredients.
A: All natural, and it's also homemade, all by myself. It’s coming along very well, so I’m very proud of it.
Q: And for how long have you been doing this now?
A: Almost two years. I’m in thirteen stores already including Breizh.
Q: What are your ideas for the future? Where do you see all this going?
A: Now I’ll be doing a lot of private labeling. People want their specific blends.
It’s a product for anybody. A lot of people experience headaches and joint pains, so the signature line is growing in popularity because of that.
The label ones have their own place. More and more people approach to me to make them some more oils.
Q: Well, if as a business owner you can put a bit of yourself in the product, it makes it more memorable. So what do you hear from estheticians saying about the product?
Spas that are using it say they like to use it at the end of the treatment when they are doing the final scalp massage. Especially with the flora or the relief.
The roller and the active are excellent for foot massage.
So you can use it in a spa but also in retail. It’s made to send our client’s home with it.
Q: Are you planning to add any additional rollers?
A: Yes’ there’s so many coming up! I’m at 20 already!
Q: It’s amazing that you are doing this full time.
A: Yes. I do this and am also a single mom. I have a 7-year-old that I take care of, and that’s all I do.
