We’re back with another of our fantastic Q&A sessions.
This time, Gina Henderson joins us from Dermal Laser to tell us about her business and how she became one of our most beloved clients.
Q: Tell us about yourself. What got you into esthetics?
A: I’ve been in the industry for over 20 years. I became aware at that time, in my mid-thirties, that I wanted to be proactive about my appearance. I wanted to keep myself looking great as the years went passed.
Q: Well, that definitely seems to be working! So, you are the manager of the Dermal Laser Centres, and you have locations in North Vancouver and Yaletown, right? Can you tell us more about the treatments you offer in there?
A: That’s right. I’ve helped built the company for the last eighteen years with Laser treatments like hair removal and photo rejuvenation. For the last ten to fifteen years we’ve also expanded to service the anti-aging crowd. We do Botox fillers, skin rejuvenation; get rid of rosacea and sun-damaged skin.
We have an incredible machine called Viva, which does fractional treatments on the face and resurfaces it. We do medical peels for acne and laser hair removal.
Our clients the value of what they spent and if they don’t feel like that, I personally talk to them to figure out what we need to do to make them happy.
Q: What kind of training have you done inside the industry?
A: I started doing electrolysis in a dermatologist office where I had a lot of exposure to hair removal, but also to very different skin conditions that increased my knowledge base.
After 14 years, back in Ottawa, another doctor and I purchased one of the first removal machines, that was new at the time.
I moved here to Vancouver 19 years ago and have been with Dermal Laser Centre since then. We were one of the first laser cosmetic medical companies in the city.
Q: And back in those days the Internet was not as big as it is today. So how did you come across Breizh?
A: I asked around to other suppliers and people in the industry about laser equipment. You were also in the Yellow Pages, as I was calling just to see who took the time to answer my questions properly and give me the information I was looking for.
Q: And what to you think that has been the best takeaways for yourself while running your own business?
A: It’s a wonderful opportunity to grow and develop alongside with the company. I’ve developed my self-confidence with all the learning I had to do to perform my duties.; I’ve developed customer relations.
I was able to put a lot of passion in something that I love to do and learn and grow.
I also feel very fortunate to been able to provide a good work environment for the staff, where clients can come in and get honest information about the services we do. It’s not just bout serving them, but we focus on finding the procedure that is right for them to make them feel better about themselves.
Q: So, being in the laser and medical esthetics business, do you use a lot of different equipment?
Yes. All our equipment is medical grade.
We have one of the largest hair removal machines in the industry to do treatments really quickly. And we have the wonderful Venus Viva, which is pretty much taking over the industry.
And of course, we couldn’t do our treatments without beds and magnifying lamps. And for this, we’ve been doing business with Breizh over the last ten years. We have Equipro beds and a lot of magnifying lamps which have very high-quality production. It’s hard to find that, but when you have a client on one of those beds you don’t need to worry that something is going to break down.
Q: How do you benefit from working with Breizh?
A: That’s an easy question!
Since the beginning, I found that whether I came here to do a small purchase or a larger one, I’ve always been treated the same. I’ve always felt welcomed, almost like a friend. There was always that openness and friendliness, and you’ve always recognized me in a personal way, not just as a client; always maintaining a family environment.
Q: That’s awesome to hear. Do you have any particular anecdote that stood up to you?
A: Yes. I purchased a lamp 12 years ago that did a lot of hard work. We used it six days a week up to ten hours a day until one day the metal pin that attached it to the wall broke.
I brought the lamp in here, and Taylor didn’t automatically try to sell me a brand new one. He told me it could be fixed by a welder but the welder didn’t do a good job.
So I brought it back to Breizh and Taylor helped me to find a solution. He took my lamp to a friend of his in Abbotsford and brought it back to me within three days later.
It was fixed for a very nominal price, and it will still work for the next ten years.
I really appreciate that you went the extra mile for us.
I love Taylor because he is a very caring human being. He is not a typical sales person. He treats people differently and cares about the quality of the services he offers.
